Join us at the reception to toast Thaddeus Kosciuszko. Imieniny traditionally have been given a greater importance than birthday celebrations in Poland. On Oct 28, 1792, the name's day for Tadeusz, Prince Czartoryski held a party at his palace for Kosciuszko. At this party, the women wore white dresses with black and blue sashes and tied their hair in ponytails with the medal ribbons.

Kosciuszko’s Fortifications & Garden at West Point, 1778-1780

Under the command of General George Washington, Colonel Thaddeus Kosciuszko, Chief Engineer at West Point, designed and oversaw construction of a fortification system during the American Revolution that was to become a model for the American Army going forward. Dr. Betsey Blakeslee will discuss the restoration efforts of Kosciuszko's fortifications and his garden at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

The Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Piano Competition was established in 1949, in honor of the hundredth anniversary of the death of Frederic Chopin. The inauguration took place at the Kosciuszko Foundation House in New York City, with Witold Malcuzynski as guest artist, and Abram Chasins, composer and music director of the New York Times Radio Stations, presiding.

Gifted vocalist Aga Zaryan conveys the finest of the history of jazz to today's audiences, continuing the traditions of great artists like Shirley Horn, Carmen McRae and Joni Mitchell. Aga was named Jazz Vocalist of The Year in the European Jazz Forum Magazine's yearly Jazz Top readers' poll in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Her latest album "Looking Walking Being" was released with a prestigious Blue Note Records label.

We are very happy to have the opportunity of presenting a very special concert by Aga Zaryan, an internationally recognized jazz vocalist of the new  generation who had already performed in NY  jazz venues on a number of occasions. This time she would sing in Polish. Her repertoire will include poetry written during the time of the Warsaw Uprising, known from the album Umiera Piekno. The artist will also perform some pieces with lyrics written by Czeslaw Milosz and much more...
